Want to be hypnotized, expect to be hypnotized, and you will be hypnotized! |
I understand some people can be hypnotized, how do I know if I'm one of them?
Most people, because all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, are capable of being hypnotized, if they allow themselves to be. it is the level of trance that is the variable.
Have someone watch as you roll your eyes upward as far as they can go. At the same time try to slowly close your eyelids. The more white is showing in your eyes, the more easily you can be hypnotized.

Will I go to sleep or blurt out secrets?
Not at all. You are simply in a daydreamy state, not asleep, and you are more in charge than even when you're in a conscious state because your attention has a narrower focus of concentration.

What does hypnosis feel like?
It's different for every person, but mostly it feels like daydreaming and is a very enjoyable experience. For some people there's a tingling in the fingers or the hands feel heavy as they rest on a body they may not feel is even there. Or their breathing changes, eyelids flutter, or they feel lightness or heaviness in the limbs.

There is probably no way in which you can learn about the human mind so quickly, so thoroughly and so interestingly as through the study and practice of hypnotism

Imagination - what is it?
Think of the Eiffel Tower...a stop sign...the color blue...
Now you didn't actually see those with your eyes...they weren't outside you near you...think of something good to eat....now see yourself sitting in this chair....notice your posture...now how did you do all those things...obviously there's a world inside you...that you never think about...
There in the subconscious is imagination...which runs your life.

How does a typical visit progress?
A typical visit lasts an hour except for the first session which an hour and a half.. We ask you to fill out an intake sheet to determine past history, including medical, as well as other previous treatments. Then we talk in depth about what brought you to the Hypnosis Center, followed by our explanation to you of what exactly being hypnotized feels like. The explanation goes like this:
Hypnosis is not sleep, it's not giving up control, it's not someone overcoming your will, it's not your blurting out deep, dark secrets. All hypnosis is self hypnosis. That means the hypnotist and you enter a contract. That contract states we as hypnotists know how to facilitate hypnosis. Your part of the contract is to accept the suggestions.
Part of the hypnotic technique is counting and suggestions of relaxation and letting go. If the truth were to be told, hypnosis is simply a letting go, a getting out of the way of what Eastern philosophy calls the Western "monkey mind". You know, chatter, chatter chatter.
In hypnosis, your conscious mind is told to go sit in the corner while subconscious mind takes front and center and becomes receptive to suggestion. As this brain wave chart shows, the cycles per second of brain wave measured in Hertz (Hz) has slowed down.
And that's what makes it receptive and suggestible.
You'll notice the top line is called BETA. This is where you're probably at right now. This is your conscious, awake state. Next is ALPHA which is the state most people attain during hypnosis. It is one of calmness, mental relaxation - a daydreamy feeling and heightened creativity. Next is THETA - a state of vivid imagery, insight, hypersuggestibility and then DELTA - the sleep state. Most people in hypnosis attain ALPHA level.
